- Photo Release: House Democrats on the Oversight Committee recently released a selection of 19 previously unseen photographs from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate. The photos feature several prominent individuals, including former President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, and others.
- Trump’s Reaction: President Trump reportedly played down the significance of the photos, stating that Epstein “has photos with everybody” and called the matter “no big deal.”
- Photo Context: The released photos show Trump at social gatherings with Epstein, including one from a 1997 Victoria’s Secret party. None of the released images are believed to depict misconduct.
- White House Response: The White House has accused House Democrats of “selectively releasing cherry-picked photos” to create a false narrative and distract from other figures connected to Epstein. The administration also pointed to their own efforts to support Epstein’s victims and increase transparency by releasing documents.
- Related Items: The photos released also included a picture of a bowl of novelty “Trump condoms.”
🗺️ Indiana Map and Trump’s Actions
- The Issue: President Trump had been pressuring Indiana Republican lawmakers to redraw the state’s congressional map (a process known as mid-cycle redistricting) to create more favorable districts for the Republican party ahead of the midterm elections. The proposed map would have effectively eliminated two Democratic districts, including that of the state’s only Black member of Congress.
- Rebuke by Indiana GOP: Despite a month-long pressure campaign, including calls from the President and visits from Vice President JD Vance, the Indiana Senate rejected the redrawn map in a decisive 31-19 vote. Twenty-one Republican state senators joined all 10 Democrats in voting against the plan.
- Significance: This vote is considered a rare and significant public rebuke of President Trump by a large contingent of Republicans in one of the nation’s most reliably conservative states.
